Great book, but I've had it for less than ...

Great book, but I've had it for less than a week and noticed an error. The photos and labels for the purple-spores puffball (a choice edible) and the poison pigskin puffball were switched. An important error that should be corrected in future editions. Found this out by cross referencing it with MO Department of Conservation's field guide. So use this as a great resource, but ALWAYS get lots of info from different sources before thinking your identification is 100% correct.

This is a great book with wonderful pictures and references. I use this book from time to time, but I'm not a real mushroom enthusiast. My brother-in-law is though and when I showed him this book he really liked it (and wanted mine, but no way. I want mine too.) So we went straight to Amazon and found him one for himself. Shipping was fast and he loves and uses it all the time. He added a few more eatables to his list thanks to the help of this book.

Wonderful Field Guide!

With one exception, I love all of my Audubon Books. This Mushroom guide is great. The pictures and descriptions don't leave you wondering. But, you really need to study. The slightest nuances could mean the difference between life and death. I'm very fortunate to have a generous and helpful mentor and I always go to her with questions. She'll always test me too. She wants to know why "I questioned what I found. What makes this mushroom different enough that you are not sure?"
The world of Mushrooming is one I've always wanted to enter. Walking for hours in the woods looking for eruptions on the forest floor or what interesting fungus is growing on a tree, it's relaxing and satisfying. There's just something magical about mushroom hunting. Learning to make spore prints is a big part of identification and they make pretty artwork to boot!
Buy this book, you won't be sorry.
