It's great! One problem though!

I love this book. It's a great solutions manual, the only problem is the author/editor missed sig fig errors. Considering how much this book stresses sig figs, I was a little surprised. Often the book will ask for answer in 3 sig figs and report the answer in 2 sig figs instead of 3 or the reverse. For example lets say HOAc, Ka = 1.74x10^-5, this Ka value has 3 sig figs. Now suppose the answer they wanted was the pKa, the book would report the answer as 4.76, which is wrong b/c the 4 is a power of 10 and not significant, therefore there are only TWO sig figs in that answer. The correct answer would be 4.759 or 4.760.

This is my only complaint. Still giving the book 5 stars as this is an annoying issue, but a relatively minor one.

Get this and Essential Biochemistry and you'll have a much better time with it

It's complete but almost impossible to learn from without supplemental resources. Get this and Essential Biochemistry and you'll have a much better time with it. Also Kahn Academy absolutely is amazing.

This book is written by scientists. They are not writers, and it is painfully evident.

this is my favorite. 5th Edition was hardly different from 6th

All of my undergraduate courses in Biochemistry taught straight from this book at the University of Arizona. Having looked at three other biochemistry books, this is my favorite. 5th Edition was hardly different from 6th. Just a few changes to pictures, none of the problems were different. Before purchasing this, go to your Biochem department and ask if they have any of these lying around. My department had over 30 5th editions lying around free to anyone. Ask your profs if they are getting rid of there instructor's manual, I did and got a copy of one.

About the Author
Donald R. Askeland joined the University of Missouri-Rolla (now the Missouri University of Science and Technology) in 1970 after obtaining his doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Michigan. His primary interest has been in teaching, resulting in a variety of campus, university, and industry awards and the preparation of a materials engineering textbook. Dr. Askeland has also been active in research involving metals casting and metals joining, particularly in the production, treatment, and joining of cast irons, gating and fluidity of aluminum alloys, and optimization of casting processes. Additional work has concentrated on lost foam casting, permanent mold casting, and investment casting; much of this work has been interdisciplinary, providing data for creating computer models and validation of such models.

Wendelin Wright is an associate professor at Bucknell University with a joint appointment in the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. She received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. (2003) in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University. Following graduation, she served a post-doctoral term at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Manufacturing and Materials Engineering Division and then returned to Stanford as an Acting Assistant Professor in 2005. She joined the Santa Clara University faculty as a tenure-track assistant professor and assumed her position at Bucknell in the fall of 2010. Professor Wright's research interests focus on the mechanical behavior of materials, particularly of metallic glasses. She is the recipient of the 2003 Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is Stanford University's highest teaching honor, a 2005 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and a 2010 National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Professor Wright is a licensed professional engineer in metallurgy in California.

Just another exploitative, overpriced textbook

There is no legitimate reason for a paperback textbook to cost over $200. Just like every other textbook publisher, Cengage is taking advantage of the fact that students are forced to purchase the exact book assigned by the professor. A new edition comes out every few years with essentially the exact same information, but the problem sets are switched around a bit, so you can't do the homework for the class without the latest edition. And good luck buying a used copy of a book that just came out this year. Shame on you for so blatantly exploiting struggling college students for easy money instead of selling products at a fair price. Just because the educational system allows you to have a monopoly over these markets doesn't mean it is ethical for you to charge such exorbitant prices.

So I FINALLY read this, I still needed to read The Forgotten Mountain first because this can contain spoilers/new characters from that book.

Can I just say how cool this book is? How many times have we read a series wondering if we could get a detailed account of the characters? And how cool is it that Heather Lyons gives us one?

Awwww yeah!

Anyways this is a super cool IN COLOR catalog of characters and places in The Collector's Society series. It also had a very cool bibliographic reference as to the timelines in the back which I will admit, I really needed.

This is a must read if you are a fan of the series!!!

Super fun book!

I loved this book! I have been a huge fan of Sandy Silverthorne's books for kids, first with my own kids and now my grandkids. I saw that he had a new book so I bought it for my grandson. When I looked through it I realized that I wanted to read it, so instead of giving it to my grandson I will let him borrow it someday! It's not a kid's book, although they would find it interesting too. It is full of so much information, some great time saving ideas and some just plain fun trivia. One of those books that you can just pick up when you have a few minutes and get a kick out of it. (Plus it has his cute illustrations!)

HOW TO CURE PALPITATION AND IRREGULAR MISSED BEATS OF THE HEART

I was very sick when I was in my forties. It was my heart that was troubling me. I had palpitation and missed beats of the heart. I felt very weak and most of the time I was breathless.
