They consider invisible data and visible evidence; problems of archiving; and surveillance and biometric control, forms of documentation that call for "informatic opacity" as a means of evasion.

Superb, insightful, important

This collection address a person's relationship with their Creator. The insights and references to the Bible are accurate and the author's ability to link thoughts from the Word demonstrate a life of learning and obedience. There is a lot of hard won wisdom available in a very readable format where each installment builds on the last and the whole comes together in a work that addresses how to live, experience joy and know who you are. I appreciate how the writing is soft and yet very direct when addressing the important.

A Great Beginners Guide

Wow, I wish they had a book like this when I started fish keeping. I think there would be fewer fish in heaven if I had a book this informative. From tank choice to maintenance, the 12 weeks this book covers is jam packed with practical information. This book includes helpful information on plants, filters, fish choice, fish diseases and much more. The step-by-step photos are great and extremely easy to follow. The information is timeless and very well done.

This is a great gift for anyone who has or wants to get a fish tank.

THE best general freshwater aquarium reference I've read.

This is a great and complete reference for the beginning to experienced aquarist. Excellent photos demonstrate what the text explains. The author not only introduces the more difficult technical procedures for keeping an aquarium, but clearly explains how to implement them and the natural processes they affect. I also particularly enjoyed that the author frequently discusses the latest innovations and equipment for the home aquarium. If there was one book for the aquarist that I would recommend, it would be this one.

Great book! Perfect for the beginner.

After a ten year break I decided to get back into aquarium keeping. I knew the basics but I was a little rusty on all the details. This book was a perfect refresher course on all of the intricacies of keeping a tropical aquarium - and I learnt a ton of new stuff too. I am setting up a 10 gallon quarantine tank (in my office) and a 29 gallon display tank (in the living room). I have followed this book page by page and a few weeks later my tanks are ready to accept fish - yes, I'm going shopping this weekend!

The author covers every aspect of setting up a new tank. Filters, lighting, substrate, food, you name it - it's all here. The explanation about the critical subject of water chemistry is the best I've read anywhere. There's also a ton of info about plants if you want to get into that side of things. He then goes on to recommend the most appropriate kinds of fish for each stage in the development of your new aquarium - all great information from someone who clearly knows what he's talking about.

The book itself is full color, with lots of graphs and charts to hold your interest. The photographs are excellent.

So, all in all, a great reference for the beginner. Highly recommended. Glad I bought it.

About the Author
Author Mike Cardiff and illustrator Pat Cardiff are identical twins. Mike developed his early blacksmithing technique working with Harry Evans and Dave Wooters at the Tidewater Foundry in Easton, Maryland. He then studied under Ken Schwarz, whom he credits with truly starting him on his career in blacksmithing. Mike later worked for several years in Colonial Williamsburg as a production smith. Excellent For The Beginning Smith

Clearly and concisely written with simple, clean illustrations. It covers shop safety, setting up a smithy, selecting tools and equipment, troubleshooting errors, and concludes with a section of exercises on making your own tools and household items--small hammers, tongs, chisels, punches, hooks and holders. When done with the exercises, one will have a very good grasp of the basics of metal shaping.

The Book of Blacksmith

It is OK, but it is to general. Most of the info can be accessed for free on the internet.
Examples: 1) good - defines what each type of process is. Bad: no material (steel) chart with recommended temperatures for various processes. 2) good: mentioned that the temp of the material can be "read" by the color of the material at any given time, bad: no color pictures to exemplifies, just a description of the color.....

I would recommended for beginners, to get the basic info in one place, but as soon as you past that stage, is basically useless.
I would not recommended it to use if you actual want to start doing blacksmithing.

Amazing tome from an excellent artist

I studied with the author for many years. This monograph is all that one needs in order to get started in blacksmithing. I use this book as a companion in my own smithing classes. The illustrations are very clear and the writing is to the point. I highly recommend this book to all. The author is a master of his craft and also a selfless teacher.

About the Author
William Parker was born and raised in the Bronx, and has resided in the Lower East Side since 1975. He has studied bass with Richard Davis, Art Davis, Milt Hinton, Wilber Ware, and Jimmy Garrison. Parker has been a key figure in the NY creative jazz scene. Renowned as a composer, improviser, and a bassist, Parker is also an educator and author. During Parker's prolific career, he has recorded over 150 albums, had countless celebrated stage appearances, and helped shaped the jazz scene for both his peers and the youth. Parker is the author of CONVERSATIONS (Rogue Art, 2011) and CONVERSATIONS II: DIALOGUES AND MONOLOGUES (Rogue Art, 2015), as well as WHO OWNS MUSIC? (buddy's knife jazzedition, 2008).

Thoughtful survey

There a number of books currently available on modern architecture in Italy. In my experience, this one is the most adventurous, while at the same time being sound in its judgments. (One should acquire the first volume as well.)

To be sure, the illustrations could be more numerous, but one can supplement them from other, weightier volumes. This one is just fine for a trip to Italy, where one can form one's own impression of the buildings. Some structures are in out-of-the-way locations--but perusal of the book will encourage the savvy traveler to seek them out. Italy offers more than ancient ruins and Baroque palaces!

Perfect.. We're currently using this book in a course on Contemporary Italian Architecture in Italy given at the Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture in Istanbul, Turkey, the course being given by Prof. Luca Orlandi. The book(The Architecture of Modern Italy, Volume II: Visions of Utopia, 1900-Present) is very sufficient and perfectly up to date; unbiased and well written with sufficient visual material.
