About the Author
Robert F. Hull Jr. is the recently retired Dean and Professor of New Testament at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, Tennessee. He has written on New Testament textual criticism, Christian identity in the Greco-Roman world, and biblical theology.

Put off by the complexity of text critical squables, but need/want to understand NT text criticism, this is the best book

For anyone put off by text criticism, or just overwhelmed by its complexity and seemingly endless exceptions and counter arguments, but wanting or needing to understand text critical issues, in my opinion this is the best book that is descriptive, not argumentative, by design. Hull is apologetic for this in his Preface, but I think that he need not be. We need more books like this, that explain the key developments and issues in biblical studies without advancing the authors particular slant on issues. Indeed, it refreshing not to know whether he is a defender of biblical inerrancy, or whether he believes that Paul wrote all the letters attributed to him - its just not on his agenda as it has been for some other authors.

I have several books on New Testament textual criticism, but I must concede that I have been slow to read some of them as they just make the issue seem so complex with very little in the end to show for all the effort expended to understand what in the world they are going on about. But this is not the case with Hull's book. It is very pleasantly concise, with some but not exhaustive examples of the ideas which he discusses. Moreover, he has engaged New Testament textual criticism in comparison to classical textual criticism, so as to bring some of the fruits of classical studies into contact with New Testament studies which I greatly appreciate, even if I do not completely agree with him on the major differences (I would note that scansion of the metre of classical texts is a major tool of classical textual criticism that is not shared with New Testament textual criticism since the New Testament can not be metrically analyzed in the same manner that e.g. Homer's or Virgil's epics can be).

Hull's point of writing is to turn people on to the merits and benefits of textual criticism of the New Testament. Considering the easy reading manner in which he has written his book - short to the point chapters-, I think that he just might succeed. However, I should mention that this book would probably require a couple of readings for someone completely new to the field of New Testament textual studies. In other words, though Hull's book is not too technical, it has not been dumbed down, so yes there is some Greek and Latin etc. in the text (but always translated). Hull's book is just a really good overview of the topic in my opinion with all the qualities expected in such a book: thorough bibliography, indices, and judicious footnotes.

Excellent summary of the discipline of NT Textual Criticism

This wonderful monograph tells two stories simultaneously: the story of the New Testament text and its transmission from the earliest extant copies up to the latest scholarly Greek editions, and the story of the development of the discipline of New Testament textual criticism from early figures such as Origin and Jerome, to the emergence of the modern critics like Erasmus and Westcott and Hort, to the latest shapers of the discipline like Bart Ehrman, Kim Haines-Eitzen, and David Parker. The development of the discipline is indeed the primary emphasis, as author Robert Hull (recently retired Dean and Professor of New Testament, Emmanuel School of Religion) focuses attention on movers (significant figures in the discipline), materials (important sources and documents), motives (the goals of various movers), methods (criteria by which certain movers made decisions), and models (examples of methods in practice).

Although the primary audience is seminary, divinity, and grad students of New Testament, this book would also be useful in undergraduate bible courses or even for the lay reader, provided that the reader has enough New Testament background to understand the general idea of textual criticism. Although Hull provides some preliminary material explaining the reasons that textual criticism is necessary and the general goals of the discipline, this is certainly not an introductory level book. I would think the most natural place for this book would be in a seminary or graduate level course on textual criticism, alongside readings from Westcott and Hort, Metzger, Epp, Ehrman, Haines-Eitzen, and Parker. Unfortunately, as Hull laments, such courses are difficult to find. I certainly was unable to take one over the course of my graduate career (all of the authors mentioned above I read independently), and found that interest is quite low even at the Ph.D level.

A Good, But Somewhat Dated Primer

Anyone from later grade school through adulthood would find this book interesting and informative. It’s a fairly quick and easy read. It approaches certain scientific topics from a slightly different angle than you find in typical textbooks. While you get a summary of some classical Newtonian physics, you get it from the point of view of heat exchange. There are a number of telling metaphors along the way. Adler points out how energy can change its form, from heat to light, from heat to kinetic energy and back again, etc. – “like an actor changing his costume to play different roles.”

There are some explanations of everyday things that you don’t often think about. Adler clearly explains the difference between steam engines and turbines, between regular engines and diesel engines. He tells how airplane engines and rocket engines achieve thrust. I didn’t know that diesel engines really use oil, not gas – and that their engines don’t have pistons.

But this book was first written in 1959 and revised in 1975. Although I find it listed as recommended supplementary reading in larger textbooks written as late as the 70’s and 80’s – it does show its age in places. It’s interesting to note how Adler believed there would be relatively cheap and widespread use of superconductors, desalination processes, geothermal heating units, and even low-temperature possibly fusion reactors, in his near future. He said that since all fossil fuels would likely be used up by the year 2000, we would have to turn to some of those alternate ways of generating heat and motion and the necessities of life. In general, these predictions have not come true.

While Adler gives summaries of how heating and cooling units work, and of how the efficiency of our home units can be rated and improved - he did not anticipate the recent wave of new high-efficiency heating units that produce condensate, just like air conditioners do. So you won't find an explanation of why so many of our modern furnaces are "leaking" water.

Adler does address the problem of thermal warming, as nuclear plants were starting to come into operation and were dumping their heated waste water into lakes and other bodies of water. However, he doesn’t project as far as the larger issue of global warming.

Overall though, this book provides a good grounding in the nature of heat. Adler wrote a whole series of brief introductory books on scientific subjects, and I’m eager to look into some of these others.

Dr. Sören Gröttrup studied mathematics and computer science with focus on probability theory and statistics and got his Ph.D. for his research on biological models. Parallel to his doctoral studies, he worked in a research institute as a data analyst on genomic data sets. Today, he works as a data analyst and statistician in the industrial and marketing sector.

About the Author

Bernd Heine is Emeritus Professor at the Institute of African Studies (Institut fur Afrikanistik), University of Cologne. His many publications include Cognitive Foundations of Grammar (OUP USA, 1997); with Derek Nurse, African Languages: An Introduction (CUP, 2000), A Linguistic Geography of Africa (CUP, 2007); and with Tania Kuteva, The Changing Languages of Europe (OUP, 2006), and The Genesis of Grammar: A Reconstruction (OUP, 2007). He is the co-editor, along with Heiko Narrog, of The Oxford Handbook of Grammaticalization

Heiko Narrog is Associate Professor at the Graduate School of International Cultural Studies of Tohoku University. He holds two PhDs in linguistics in Germany and Japan, and his publications include Japanische Verbflexive und flektierbare Suffixe (Harrassowitz 1999) and Modality, Subjectivity, and Semantic Change (OUP, 2012), as well as numerous articles in linguistic typology, semantics and language change, and Japanese linguistics.

About the Author
Leonard B. Scott (Col. USA ret.) is also the author of the acclaimed novels Charlie Mike, The Last Run, The Hill, The Expendables, The Iron Men, and Forged in Honor. Scott retired in 1994 as a full colonel after a twenty-seven-year career in the United States Army, with assignments throughout the world. A veteran of Vietnam, he earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Colonel Scott devotes all his time to researching and writing his novels. He and his wife have returned to their home state of Oklahoma, bought their dream house, and declare they're never moving again.

Free, online resources more useful

This book is well written, and the examples are decent, if you've never seen an actual IEP, but because each state (and sometimes even each school district) typically has its own IEP format, this book isn't terribly useful. Maryland (the state I am in) requires that IEP annual goals be taken directly from the Voluntary State Curriculum, at grade level, but this book only covers the very basics outlined by IDEA.

When researching (via Google) online resources as to how to write IEP Goals based on a curriculum (even when the student's academic functioning is far below grade level), I came across a number of very useful, (legally) free resources, often put together by actual state boards of education, or school districts, to aid their own teachers in meeting state requirements for an IEP.

That being said, I would recommend this book if 1) you have no time to look up other resources, and/or 2) you don't have internet access. It's well written, and gets you in the ball park, so it's better than nothing.

This book was recommended by one of my grad professors. It is not with the $29.23 I paid for it. If you have never written an IEP and if you do not have the time to read even one or two web resources then buy this book. But, if you have written an IEP or if you are willing to read a bit on the web DO NOT WAISTE YOUR MONEY!

This book works!

This is a seriously effective book. I've worked with money spells for years successfully, but this book seems to be on another level from what I'm used to using (candle spells, talismans, etc.). Nitika's speed at manifestation kind of reminds me of St. Expedite (who I have worked with on numerous occasions, also successfully). The nice thing about this cashbook spell is that you can specify exactly what you need. As others have mentioned, this is the same Nitika from the New Avatar Power system, but the book shows a much different way of working with him.

One thing that may be helpful for some is an observation that I've had and would like to share, although I've only worked this spell twice so far. It seems that when you begin your spell campaign and start to get results, you should continue until the manifestation "solidifies". I say that because my first time out using this, and once I had indications that my spell was likely to work, I actually stopped chanting each day (I had only done the spell for three days by that point) thinking it was a done deal, and the expected manifestations either got delayed or canceled for one reason or another. That told me that I should have kept going until I had something tangible in hand showing that the manifestations were a certainty (as in a check, or a signed contract), instead of just a probability.

Even with that, I was still shocked at the dramatic speed of the manifestations. I have been practicing magick for nearly 10 years, and in my experience it can be rare to see a spell manifest only hours after casting it, but it happened with this book the second time I used it. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Buy it, you'll be very glad you did.

ITS COMING!

works better now that i know how to focus on the amount i need, Nitika will some time split funds it sends if the whole amount cant be obtained from one source. ex: i asked for $ 2,500. the first amount i received was $1,700. At that point i only really needed 850 more, so i redirected my focus on the 850, instead of continuing to ask for the amount of 2500. a few days later, right before the deadline 1000 rolled in.
So the lesson here is, its coming. Even if its a close call. Sometimes the whole amount cant be dumped off all at once. focus on the actual amount u need minus what u already got. hope this helps.

Give it chance. This works!

I purchased this book about a month and a half ago and took some time contemplating before actually digging in, making the book, and performing the short but sweet ritual. At first my concern was whether this was safe. My only experience with spiritual beings have been dealing with angels or nasty unwelcomed entities that I would have to drive away. I can tell you that Nitika is not to be feared. Just treat him with respect and he will reciprocate. Also I like Damon's Facebook page and contacted him a few times with any concerns I had. He was very patient and helpful with me, as I am a newbie to evocational magick. Now let me get to my results. The first try did not work. This is because the amount I asked for was too much for me to believe I can really have! So I tried it again with a lower amount and did the ritual for 13 days straight and nothing happened. I just gave up, put my book away, and thought that this isn't for me. I didn't practice any magick at all since then. Lo and behold, 3 weeks later the money I asked for appeared in a very unexpected way and was even a little bit more than I asked for! I don't normally write reviews but I feel compelled to out of gratitude to Damon and Nitika. Pay careful attention to what Damon writes about 'Lust for result'. So give this book a try! I will be on the lookout for more books from Damon. Wishing prosperity and blessings to all :)
