About the Author
John Care is managing director at Mastering Technical Sales. He has spent numerous years building world-class Sales Engineering organizations at companies such as Oracle, Sybase, Vantive, Clarify, Business Objects. Mr. Care holds a B.Sc. with honors in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London and is a contributing member of the M.B.A. Advisory Council for the Fox Business School of Temple University, Philadelphia.

Aron Bohlig is a technology investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston in San Francisco, where he is responsible for putting together the IPOs of hi-tech corporations. Previously, he was director of vertical product management at Nortel. Mr. Bohlig holds B.S. degrees in both information technology and English from the University of Puget Sound, Washington and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

My Team's Bible

I run a worldwide sales engineering team. I found Mastering Technical Sales about four years ago and immediately made it my team's "Bible." During that time, we've experienced a lot of growth in the company and it has continued to provide a foundation for my organization which is second to none. Every inContact Sales Engineer receives a copy of MTS, when they come on board. I will continue to use it as a part of my onboarding process and I personally use MTS as a reference, regularly.

I highly recommend this book as well as John Care as a speaker. He's provided excellent training to my organization on two seperate occasions and it was money well spent.

Great reference for a new sales engineer!

As someone new to sales engineering the book provide me with much needed insight into an SE's role in the technical sales process. The case studies and antecdotes based on the authors' and contributors' experience were very illuminating. The style was effective and the points being made were easy to digest. This book will be an additional reference in my new career path.

Even if your an experienced SE, I highly recommend that you purchase this book as a way to gain additional knowledge and just to review your forgotten knowledge of the sales process. We as Engineers have a different approach to the sale process, our Sales counterparts don't always truly understand our real job and have their own perception of what we are there for.

a great supplement for anyone contemplating a fate core campaign

I purchased this recently and am very glad I did, within its pages are examples of over 150 various creatures all of which are highly detailed and will prove to be a boon to any GM who is planning a Fantasy campaign using Fate Core, the creature examples give you tips on who to utilise them as well as often displaying a quirky sense of humour that only designers who enjoyed creating their product could display, Highly recommended.

Twin caught in the madness of the holocaust are separated at wars end, Ruda to become an animal trainer in the US and Rebecca to marry and become a Baroness in France. Both troubled women have tried to bury the past but in doing so have opened themselves to a madness they cannot explain or even understand. Through strange circumstances both arrive in Berlin after the fall of the wall. Ruda is a talented animal trainer struggling to move up to the big time with a husband who has not only lost his nerve but has a pregnant girl friend demanding marriage. Rebecca is in Berlin to be treated by a world famous psychiatrist as a final desperate attempt by her husband at a cure before he has her committed permanently to an asylum.
The twins feel the nearness of each other and begin slowly to recover some of the memories of their time at Auschwitz and the terrible experiments they were part of with "Papa" Dr. Mengele.
Linda La Plante is a talented writer and weaves the two lives in a tightening spiral that is filled with tension and excitement. The twins' characters are fully developed as are the other minor characters, Luis Grimaldi, Ruda's husband; Torsen Heinz, the Stazi police officer investigating the murder of Ruda's husband, Tommy Kellerman.
All in all a very satisfying read that I would recommend to all mystery and thriller fans.

Expect the Unexpected

From the moment you start this book you won't want to put it down except to eat, sleep, and shower! This should be read by every set of adult twins. It is an amazing story of telepathic sisters who have been separated and I can say without a doubt it is one of the best books I have ever read. I first became interested in Lynda La Plante after seeing "Prime Suspect" on public television. At that time I often traveled to London and I bought more of her novels over there. i have read 22 of her novels and each of them I have found to be excellent. Marty Brounstein is the Principal of The Practical Solutions Group, a training and consulting firm based in the San Francisco Bay area that specializes in management and organizational effectiveness. Marty's consulting work includes one-on-one coaching with managers and executives, assistance to groups working to become productive teams, and guidance and direction for organizations establishing practices for high performance and employee retention. His training programs target management as well as employee-development issues including leadership, team development, customer service, and effective communication. As a consultant, speaker, and trainer since 1991, Marty has served a wide variety of organizations from high tech to government, for profit to non-profit. He has a bachelor's degree in education and history and a master's degree in industrial relations. Prior to beginning his consulting career, he spent a couple of years as a human resources executive.

This book was just released in the spring of 2007. The authors did extensive research and used the materials in the classroom. This is an excellent resource and would be a good tool on the bookshelf in any office or business, or for any student who has to prepare business reports. Like Work term reports. The book goes through the do's and don'ts of business communication and the new business etiquette in an electronic age.

The Sections of the book are:
Part I: Foundations of Business Communication
Part II: The Writing process
Part III: Letters, Memos, E-Mail, and Other Brief Messages
Part IV: Developing Speaking Skills
Part V: Reports and Proposals
Part VI: Employment Messages

This book is packed full of new features and online support to help make the information more accessible and easily applicable, either in the classroom or in the office. There is a website: wiley.com/college/brounstein
It has a pretest and a posttest for each chapter to check your knowledge. You can use the pretest to determine where to focus your effort in the chapter, and the posttest to see how you did. There is also a quiz at the end of each chapter to make sure you have grasped the concepts in that chapter. The book also has some information on new laws regarding emails and the use of them in court and as legal documents.

Some of the other features are an extensive Glossary, and a number of appendices with samples of most of the documents discussed in the book. Also included in each chapter are extensive samples and examples of the different styles commonly used in business documents.

In my experience, most textbooks are not well written, or easily accessible to the student or a person looking to work through it on their own. I have a professor at UW who changed textbooks every term because he could never find one he was satisfied with for more than one term. This book would not fall into that category. It is user-friendly, well organized, comprehensible and useful. This book will be referenced for years to come. If you're writing positive business letters, negative messages or trying to write persuasively, this book will give you examples aplenty and the skills to maximize your business communication. Most of those skills will be transferable into writings reports and essays during your time at UW.

This book will be an asset to you throughout your student career and beyond!

THE BOOK WAS WELL WRITTEN. IT WAS IN A FORMAT FOR EASY READING AND THE MATERIAL WAS RELEVANT. THE ONLY THING THAT COULD BE ADDED WOULD BE MORE VISUAL AIDS AND DIAGRAMS.

I am a senior executive who has worked in the investment industry for over 25 years and have read thousands of personal investment books in that time. I have three degrees including degrees in finance and economics and an MBA.

I speak regularly on retirement saving strategies and am frequently asked to recommend books for investors, and this is my choice. Although it quotes UK examples, its advice is relevant for any investor.

This book clearly summarises a huge amount of financial expertise from the most trusted academic sources in terms which can be understood by the layman. It does not 'talk down' to the reader but offers an excellent and comprehensive overview of personal investment strategy. This book offers you the best advice for building your wealth, period. It includes sound advice on how to build and execute your plan.

It is well illustrated and comes with good summaries. The bibliography is excellent.

�

I took the time to search on the internet for Mr. Hales address and personally congratulate him on this book - I have never done that before - the book is that good. Please read it, we need more people like Mr Hale to share their knowledge with the public.

Hale reiterates the simple truth that the individual investor cannot beat the market over the medium term, nor should they try….…What makes Hale's book so persuasive is the fact that the author spent so much of his professional life working in active fund management companies, sort of poacher turned gamekeeper. The book is well written, draws the reader step by step into quite complex arguments without resorting to jargon and technique short cuts. At the end of book both the novice and the hardened investment specialist will come away better informed and armed with the tools necessary to make your money work harder for your future.

a nice read on financial planning and smarter investing

This is a nice book and I think it is a reality check for all mutual fund investors.I liked the section on how to build smarter portfolio with a mix of bonds,equities and alternative investments and all their variants. There are several goal setting tables that help you define what you want to achieve from your investments during the accumulation as well as distribution phase. Influenced by Index investing, it points out the implications of costs,taxes and their impact on fund performance.The eye-openers are really thought provoking and for sure will help you avoid some of the follies made by a bad investor. This is highly recommended for the conservative and the smart investor.

I don't have a clue what this collection of odd short stories is all about--sorry! I read two, and I have to assume it's a woman thing. I got it because my wife enjoyed the movie "Ella Enchanted," and I somehow thought this book was related, you know, kind of like the zillions of novels that have "Twilight" in the titles are related (another favorite of my wife's--look, I don't ask; we've been married many decades, raised kids, seen gradkids and greatgrandkids--do you think I haven't learned anything in all these years!)

About the Author

Steven B. Heymsfield, MD, brings a broad range of experience in research to the writing of this book. He is trained in physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, all of which relate to the measurement and study of body composition. Dr. Heymsfield is currently the executive director of clinical studies, metabolism at Merck in Rahway, New Jersey, where he oversees Merck's Clinical Obesity Research Program.

Additionally, he is a visiting scientist at the Obesity Research Center at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. Prior to his current position, Dr. Heymsfield was a professor of medicine at the Columbia University, New York, College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Heymsfield has conducted national and international presentations and made many contributions to publications in the field. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, International Journal of Body Composition Research, Age & Nutrition, Nutrition Reviews, Clinical Nutrition, and Adipocytes. He is also an active member of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity and past president of both the American Society of Clinical Nutrition and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

Timothy G. Lohman, PhD, is a leading scientist in the field of body composition assessment. A respected researcher, he explores body composition methodology and changes in body composition with growth and development, exercise, and aging. His leadership in standardization of body composition methodology is well recognized.

Dr. Lohman is a professor in the department of exercise science at the University of Arizona. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Education, a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and a member of the Youth Fitness Advisory Committee of the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas. He is the author of many research articles and an editor of the Anthropometric Standardization Reference Manual, published by Human Kinetics. Dr. Lohman is also author of Advances in Body Composition Assessment.

ZiMian Wang, PhD, is an associate research scientist at Columbia University College and research associate in the Obesity Research Center of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Trained in biology, biochemistry, physiology, and chemistry, he has published more than 100 research papers on the topic of human body composition.

Scott B. Going, PhD, is an associate professor in the department of nutritional sciences at the University of Arizona. An expert in body composition models and methods, he has more than 20 years of related teaching experience and research experience in this field.

Book came in looking brand new. It impressed me how well the book looked. I expected I was just buying a cheap used book to get me through my class, I was blown away with a brand new looming book. Great buy in my opinion. It did take awhile to get to my house though.

Mike Love�is a founding member of the Beach Boys, who began in 1961 and stand as the most popular American group in history, with thirteen Gold albums, fifty-five Top 100 singles, and four No. 1 hits. Suprisingly Good

I'm not a big fan of ML, in general...He seems very egotistical, always trying to make sure everyone knows he wrote all the lyrics and Brian wasnt the only genius, and he wrote Kokomo which went to #1 without Brian, and no, he didn't say "dont F with the formula" when Brian did pet sounds/smile, and answers interview questions about "what are your biggest regrets" with instead of some sort of introspective answer it always ends up being some form of "my biggest regret is the Wilson's all did drugs but I didn't", etc etc.

That said, the book was surprisingly good...Yes, it had somewhat of a revisionist history, trying to make sure he doesn't come off as a villain, but he was also surprisingly honest about things I thought he might not even mention in the book. Surprisingly self-deprecating at times. At least more than I would've expected from the guy who gave that R & R Hall of fame speech.
As a Beach Boy Fan, i couldn't put it down. Was great to hear his perspective on different Beach Boys lore, how he saw things...I wonder how much he wrote and how much James Hirsch just filled in, I would be curious to know that. But overall, as far as readability, I read it all in one sitting and was sad when it was over. (Note: I've read about 3 or 4 Beach Boys books in the last few years, another one that is worth reading [if tabloidy] is "Heroes And Villans" by Steve Gaines. I would put that and this one as the 2 most compelling/fascinating Beach Boys reads...Will be interesting to see how Brian's book is).

Mike Love – “Good Vibrations – My Life As A Beach Boy”

As someone who has been with one of rock and roll’s greatest bands from its inception in 1961 to today, Mike Love definitely had a book in him and he is able to offer an insider’s view of the history of the band.

But we all knew it was going to be more than that. Right or wrong, Mike Love has garnered a reputation as the man who thwarted the development of the Beach Boys from a surf-rock band to one with a wider and deeper repertoire. Along the way he has been an observer of, amongst others, Murry Wilson, Charles Manson, the Maharishi and Dr. Eugene Landy. Naturally, he has also been an observer of his fellow Beach Boys.
So, Mike has two reasons for writing this book. First it’s another history of the Beach Boys, which while not offering anything startlingly new, fills in a few gaps and offers some anecdotes not found in the histories already out there. The second reason and surely the most overwhelming one is to state his version of events and refute some of the accusations that have been made against him. The reader will have to determine whether or not Mike succeeds, as it depends on what other information the reader has absorbed over the years.

Mike doesn’t come anywhere close to justifying his RnR HoF performance, where he tore into Paul McCartney and Diana Ross and said that “Mick Jagger has always been chicken s*** to get onstage with the Beach Boys’”. Mike justified that to Mick Jagger by telling him the reason he made the remark was that he “thought a fund-raising competition between the two bands via satellite would raise a helluva lot of money”.

On the other hand, it’s a known fact that Murry Wilson removed Mike’s name from the songwriting credits for those early Beach Boys’ songs and then sold the catalog. Regardless of his contribution to those songs, it appears that Mike had to sue to receive his just compensation.

Mike offers criticism of his fellow Beach Boys, with Dennis coming in for the lion’s share. Mike is also critical of himself but not to the same extent. He offers an insight into their association with the Republican Party when he says, “our association with the Reagans and the Bushes has fueled the perception that the Beach Boys are Republican, me in particular.” Mike counters by saying, “it’s also true that most people don’t know anything about my politics.”

So, we do get an entertaining account of the saga of the Beach Boys, as seen through the eyes of the writer. Most readers will be able to balance Mike’s account by reference to the many earlier books and articles covering both the group and Brian Wilson as an individual. They can then reach their own conclusions about the role Mike has played over these last 55 years.

Great book about a great band!

I've always been a fan of the Beach Boys and have had the pleasure of seeing them perform 4 times. I'm about 2/3 through right now and it's difficult to put it down. I've read so many stories about the Beach Boys, but reading about them in Mike Love's own words makes it all much more personal. He's very frank and open about the highs and the lows and he pulls no punches....not even on himself. It's all straight from the heart. Anyone who's a fan of the greatest American band ever, or even if you're interested in looking behind the curtain of a highly successful music machine, or if you've ever been IN a band and got frustrated with trying to coordinate 4 or 5 separate and distinct personalities of the guys in your band will love this book.
