This Didn't Need To Happen

When I read the end of Me and My Boyfriend all those years ago, I thought that it was perfect ending to a hood story. I never thought we'd get a follow up. And if I'm being honest, I really wish we hadn't gotten a follow up. I love Keisha Ervin, she has talent, I own several of her books and can't really remember not liking the ones that I've read. The problems with this book are, she described every single outfit these characters wore, and there were at least six characters. I didn't need to know every time someone was wearing a DVF dress or a Louis Vuitton bag with Christian Louboutin shoes. None of that mattered when the story ended.
Keisha had one too many stories going on at once. She started the story of one of the characters and we still don't know what the hell happened in her relationship. One...no, all of the characters often times spoke like Tamar Braxton, (me, she her? Lies you tell!) which made the characters unauthentic. If you fashion your characters after someone who is always in character, they are not original, they are a copy, and that's a problem.There was a character that was super responsible when the book started and then she just fell apart all because she was unhappy in her relationship. Does it happen? Yes. Did it need to happen so fast? No. There was no progression to get us to certain places because everyone's story needed to be told so she told them fast.
All in all, the story had a lot of potential, but it didn't need to be a follow up because what Miss Ervin gave us was Love and Hip-Hop (the street edition)in book form.

I love her books too much to give her one star but... I'm disappointed!!!! . She need to turn off the television when she's writing. I'm noticing She unconsciously plagiarizes in her booksTamar, New Jack City, Wahida Clark....smh. I was excited for this release, now I'm glad I got it through kindle unlimited. If you ask me this should have been Gwynn story alone. Black spent more time cheating then hustling. What happened to Nikki?

I love Keisha Ervin back in the day.........but this one right here....has me too confused. If you are going to continue a person's story from a previous book....keep in mind we did read and for someone who wrote it you should also know what happened....I'm trying to figure out how in the world Jaden JR never grew????? Kelly had him in Me and My Boyfriend before Messa & Black got together. Messa & Black were together for 10 years so how is Jaden Jr still in preschool & going to daycare while Messa's kids is almost paying bills?????????? And I swear if I wanted to read all about someone's outfit from the label to cost I would just pick up a magazine....this book cost way too much for that & I really could care less what they have on.
