Great dialog, great sex scenes

Having written a cougar romance, I was eager to read another author's take on the subgenre. Karla Doyle knocked it out of the ballpark in Game Plan, her debut novel.

Andie meets Mason when he hits her with a baseball so he'll have an excuse to introduce himself. A mom with responsibilities who's just freed herself from a bad marriage, Andie is more than willing to engage in a romp between the sheets, but forever-after isn't part of her new game plan - especially not with a man ten years younger. Mason, however, has other ideas.

Game Plan has a nice story line, witty dialog and hot, realistic sex scenes. I enjoyed the humor, which frequently made me laugh out loud. Karla Doyle writes well and with a light touch, making this story a pleasure to read. It's five stars all around, but the exceptional dialog and smooth sex scenes especially stand out.

Excellent!!

It is rare to find an author who is capable of telling a well developed story and weave in the hot, erotic sexy bits. Karly Doyle does it well. This is the story of the relationship between Andie, a forty year old divorcee and Mason, a younger man, a veteranarian. Even the secondary characters are well defined. A great read. I am now stalking Ms. Doyle and looking for all her other work. She's my new favorite author!!

A very pleasant surprise

I really wasn't sure what to expect as EC seems all over. This is in the "sophisticate" category, which I think means the older crowd? Anyway, the cougar trope isn't really my favorite so I put it off. Man, imagine my surprise when near the beginning it turns scooorching hot. I hope my 40's go something like this because it was hotter than a lot of 20-something erotic romance I read. Nice hot sex and lots of it, which just enough emotion and personality to keep it all interesting. It's actually quite long, but never lets up the hotness. Just when I thought that's all there was (and I wasn't going to complain, mind you) I got some lovely angst at the end. Well rounded, well written and really hot, Game Plan is a prime specimen of contemporary erotic romance.

About the Author

Dennis R. Judd is a professor in the Department of Political Science and Fellow in the Great Cities Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago.� For many years he has been a major contributor to the literature on urban economic development, national urban policy, and urban regeneration in Europe and the United States; two books from this research program include Regenerating the Cities: The UK Crisis and the US Experience (co-edited with Michael Parkinson and Bernard Foley; Manchester University Press, 1988),� and Leadership and Urban Regeneration: Cities in North America and Europe (co-edited with Michael Parkinson; Sage, 1990). He is co-author of a leading textbook in the field of urban politics, City Politics (8th edition, Longman, 2011), and served as editor of the leading journal in urban affairs, the Urban Affairs Review, from 1985 to 2002. More recently he has been engaged in a sustained research program on tourism as an instrument for urban revitalization; publications include The Tourist City (co-edited with Susan Fainstein; Yale University Press, 1999), The Infrastructure of Play (edited; M.E. Sharpe, 2003), and Cities and Visitors (co-edited with Susan Fainstein and Lily Hoffman; Blackwell, 2004). His most recent book is The City, Revisited (co-edited with Dick Simpson). Currently he is working a book examining the tourist strategy to revitalize Chicago’s lakefront, and is leading a collaborative project on the policy problems of the Great Basin Desert in the American West. In 1997 he received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and in 1998 he received the Career Achievement Award from the Urban Politics Section of the American Political Science Association. In 2013 the Urban Politics Section of the American Political Science Association honored him by naming its annual best book award the Dennis Judd Best Book Award in Urban Politics.

Todd R. Swanstrom has a Masters from Washington University in Political Science and a Ph.D. from Princeton University in Politics. The author or co-author of six books and over twenty-five scholarly articles, Professor Swanstrom also served as a neighborhood planner for the City of Cleveland and as Staff Director of Strategic Planning for the City of Albany. He is co-author of the prize-winning book, Place Matters: Metropolitics for the Twenty-first Century, rev. ed. (University Press of Kansas, 2005), which examines the relationship between urban decline and suburban sprawl. Recently, he has published articles on the prospects for alliances between central cities and distressed suburbs, economic segregation among municipalities, different ways of measuring poverty, and the development of a regional greenway in St. Louis. His current research focuses on metropolitan approaches to equity and theories of regional network governance. He is also doing research on the responses to foreclosures in six metropolitan areas and efforts to open up construction jobs to women and minorities. He is a member of the MacArthur Foundation's Building Resilient Regions Network which is working to build the field of regional studies and translate scholarly research for practitioners.

R. C. Good Devotional Commentary

I want to thank Crossway Books for sending me a copy of R.C. Sproul's new commentary on Acts to use in preparation for a series I am going to be teaching this Winter.

I would classify Sproul's work as a "Devotional Commentary" on the entire book of Acts. His writings are based on a sermon series that he presented at St. Andrews Church in Sanford, Florida. I believe that laymen and pastors will find his work interesting and insightful but not heavily exegetical. He is writing from a reformed background.

I thought that Dr. Sproul did a good job of touching on every chapter and main theme from the book of Acts. His stated goal in this commentary is, "to clearly explain God's Word and to show how we ought to live in light of it." He also states this is "not a technical commentary . . . . this is an expository commentary."

Dr. Sproul takes each section of Acts and gives us historical background, the intended purpose that Luke had in sharing the story and then application on how we should live today in response to God's word.

One of the main themes that he expounds upon is that of "obedience" to the Word of the Lord. This obedience is first seen right after Christ's Ascension when the apostles and other disciples go back to the upper room to remain in prayer and fellowship until the gift of the Holy Spirit is given.

Then their obedience is seen in how Peter and John refuse to stop preaching the Gospel when told to by the Sanhedrin. They properly state that they can not cease to share the Gospel since the Lord Jesus Christ very directly commanded them (and each of us) to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

We then see obedience in the life of Stephen who also will not be silenced by the religious leaders of the Jewish community. He preaches a sermon that gives a great gospel presentation and then results in his death. Stephen becomes the church's first martyr. He is obedient to the end.

The second half of Acts expresses Paul's obedience to the Lord through the task in-trusted to him on the Damascus Road. Paul never waivers from his task. He continues even in the face of death threats, lashings, shipwrecks, arrest, etc.

Obedience is what the Lord calls us to, the early church responded quickly and loyally to that call. They shared together all that they had. They stood up for each other, send money to each other, prayed for each other and never shied away from presenting the Gospel.

As you start a study in the book of Acts you will be greatly encouraged by Dr. Sproul's clearly written, easy to read commentary.

Gripping

The mark of a great non-fiction book is its ability to take a reader who has no prior knowledge, experience, or interest in a subject and draw him in so he can't stop turning the pages. Air Vagabonds does just that. Being neither a pilot, or particularly fond of non-fiction, I was somewhat cautious when this book was recommended to me by a friend. But once I started, I felt I was a part of this adventurous, lonely, and yes, sometimes foolhardy way of life.
Did I think the book was compelling? I'm over Greenland. Ice is forming on my wings. The cockpit heater has failed and the inside temperature is below zero. I'm thinking to myself, my god, what the heck am I doing here? Then I look up and realize that I'm in the safety of my easy chair, reading.

Wow, you won't put it down. This is one of those books that take you by surprise. The author and true adventurer of this book was right on the mark writing it. I can see it now, all his buddies and friends telling him, "hey, this is too much, you should write a book..." This dude did things which both amaze and fascinate. He is your average everyday guy who wanted some adventure and had lots and lots of guts. A better way of describing this guy and his adventures would be with the word "big" a few expletives and the word "balls." The writing style is superb, captivating and easy to follow. Totally well done.

The best pilot stories ever told

By chance, I happened to meet one of the pilots documented in this book. He is every bit the character that is portrayed within these chapters. I have met hundreds of pilots in my career but none of them had flying stories that could compare to the ones told in this wonderful book. As you move from chapter to chapter you find yourself covering vast distances and soon the reader is alone over the Pacific consuming pages of the book as steadily as the ferry pilots airplanes consumed precious fuel. This is a book of true pilot stories that will captivate every airman and intrigue the layman.
