This is a fun weekend read.

The second is that the road to enlightenment is paved with gold! This is because when you're truly conscious and give without expectation, you'll be so attractive to the world that every toy, every material possession, will find its way to you. But here's the thing: The more enlightened you become, the less interest you'll have in those toys. You might like to hold them for a second, but you won't be interested in holding on to them. Because your connection to God will remind you that you don't need any of it!"

While getting inspired by Simmons' wisdom, I literally laughed out loud a number of times-- appreciating the audacity with which he shares some deep spiritual truths in the language of hip hop.
Somehow Simmons pulls it off and it's really inspiring to imagine his playful yet serious style inspiring people who otherwise might not be into stuff like meditation, yoga, and veganism to live more spiritually connected lives.

Came into my life at the right time.

I remember getting Do You! For a graduation gift, since then I knew unc dropped jewels for life. Understandable jewels. That was almost 8, 9 years ago. After that a year or so ago I brought uncs meditation book (where I learned of this book) which slowly but consistently changed my life. I have always been a consistent seeker of God. I mean my tweeter name is @godseeking. But the point is that when u are seeking the outside world for God it starts to get confusing. Then u realize he is inside of u always talking and giving u signs throughout the universe. All we have to do is follow them. I appreciate this book because from unc level all the way down to my worldly level. It's the same truth. "The art and the artist our one". Our creator is great, and from experience so far I can say the best way to align with the universe is to start within. Because we our apart of it. Yall have a blessed day. ~dj

This Ain't Def-Jam

In the beginning of the book Russ reiterates a conversation he has with his brother Joey (legendary rapper-RUN of Run-DMC). Within the conversation Joey argues the precepts of the book won't be well received by the people in the struggle; he was right. This book isn't DO You (which was 5 mics-stars-etc.). SR is meant to be a part II, an extension of the values Russell has adopted as he's matriculated in his life journey, however, it doesn't deliver. Not sure who this book was written for but it feel's like it wasn't written for a guy raised on Def-Jam.
